The chief minister distributed medical insurance cards to five employees as part of the launch of the scheme.
The government is implementing the scheme through United India Insurance Company, between July 1 2016 and June 30, 2020.
All government employees will be covered if they pay Rs 180 per month. The employees and their family members will be covered for Rs 4 lakh. If an employee has cancer or needs an organ transplant, the cover will be increased to Rs 7.5 lakh.
More than 10.22 lakh employees will be covered. The state government will spend Rs 17.90 crore annually for the scheme
